Love Burns Brightly

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God (El Gabor),

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The fourth candle is the Love candle. It completes the circle and reminds us of God’s unending love. The love of our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Just as the Prophecy, Faith, Joy, and Love candles complete the advent wreath, these names of God show us some call signs of Jesus.

The Prince of Peace is “Sar Shalom” in Hebrew. Sar is the term for leader while Shalom is the term for peace. This peace is beyond quiet and calm. This is internal peace, peace that passes all understanding. It comes from loving and trusting God. God wants us to turn to Him when we have trials when we have problems with relationships. He uses it to remind us of victories in our lives and it is part of the fruit of the Spirit.

The Prince of Peace shows us that He can bring peace wherever He rules. His rule starts in our hearts, deep within us. It grows during trials and gives us victories.

His peace rules in our hearts.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

His peace grows inside us.

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely,” 1 Thessalonians 5:23a

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

His peace helps during trials.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

His peace grants us victories.

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” Romans 16:20

His peace strengthens our relationships.

“… eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” Ephesians 4:3

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

The love candle reminds us of the Prince of Peace. His love brings us peace deep within our hearts. When trials come His peace will help us overcome those trials, He will give us victories, and He will strengthen our relationships.

As we approach Christmas Day, we are reminded of the Second Coming. Isaiah reminds us what the future will look like.

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,

and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,

and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;

and a little child shall lead them.

Isaiah 11:6

Our wreaths are shining bright. We are waiting for Christ’s arrival.
